<p style="text-align:justify"><em>The 102-year-old linguist is renowned as the &#8220;father of pinyin&#8221;, the system for representing standard Mandarin in the Roman alphabet. The country is celebrating the anniversary with lectures, a TV series and educational programmes.</em></p>
